NARTO demands compensation for truck burnt in Anambra
The Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has appealed to the Anambra State government to consider full compensation for its truck burnt down on Sunday.
The truck with registration number TO 168 YB carrying cows was set ablaze by gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) at about 8am.
The chairman of NARTO in Potiskum Local Government, Yobe State, Alhaji Manga Mohammed, who made the demand in an interview with newsmen yesterday, said every Nigerian has the right to earn through legitimate means in all parts of the country.
“Potiskum is identified with heavy duty transportation business across the country and our members are carrying out their legitimate business to the southern parts of the country, why should they be attacked or harassed?
“Nigeria is the only country we have; we should learn to live peacefully with one another and not to take laws into our hands.
“We, therefore, on behalf of the association call on the Anambra State government to compensate Lawan Tukur, the owner of the burnt truck, in order to reduce the hardship imposed on him.
“The truck is carrying a legal commodity that was meant to improve the economy of Anambra State and the country in general.”
