Repaired Akwa Ibom power tower ready in 1 week – TCN
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said repairs of the vandalized power transmission tower on the Ikot Ekpene to Odukpani transmission line Akwa Ibom will be completed in one week.
The Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider (TSP) at TCN, Engr. Victor Adewumi stated this yesterday when he visited the site to assess the repair works on the instance of the Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu.
Adewumi, who briefed newsmen at the site, said the transmission line could be back to the national grid in one week to evacuate over 400MW from the Odukpani power plant near Calabar.
“As we speak, Odukpani NIPP has the capacity to bring over 400MW to the grid but they are shut out because there is no other way to connect to the national grid due to the vandalism, but we are speeding up the process. It will take one more week for the project to be complete and return to service.
He said: “This is not the only tower that has been vandalized, others were vandalized. It’s just that it is this one that came down,” he noted.
Engr. Adewumi appealed to the public, especially residents of Akwa Ibom and parts of Cross River state that the company was fast tracking the process.
“We appeal to people to also take ownership of power infrastructure that passes through their communities,” he noted.
Also speaking, the Regional Transmission Manager of Port Harcourt Region of TCN, Engr. Daniel Udofia said the tower vandalism affected a lengthier span of the transmission line.
