Ekiti State Governor and Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has described Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya as a “quiet storm” and a reference point of purposeful leadership.

Feyemi spoke yesterday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Gombe, where he met with delegates and other stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the state in a bid to actualise his presidential ambition.

He noted that the chairman of the governors’ forum, he is keen on what happens in all the states of the federation.

He also described Governor Yahaya’s passion for the development of the Gombe State as legendary.

He said prior to his declaration to run for the office of the president, he had consulted with his fellow colleagues in the NGF for their support and solidarity.

He said given his contributions to the emergence and development of the All Progressives Congress, he was at a vantage position to advance the social economic and infrastructural development of the country.

Noting that leadership is all about service to humanity, Fayemi said he would do all that is necessary to advance the course of the APC should he fail to get the party’s presidential ticket.

He said someone conversant with the challenges confronting the nation, including security, economic and job creation, his first task, if elected as president, would be to bolster the strength and size of the country’s Armed Forces to be able to withstand the nation’s security challenges using technology and improved intelligence gathering.

According to him, the economy plays a pivotal role in shaping the security architecture of the country.

He said his presidency would ensure a rapid economic growth and transformation that would be beneficial to all and sundry.

“With me on the seat, I have not just the capacity and capability but courage to tackle the myriad of challenges confronting the country,” he said.

He told the leaders and members of the APC in Gombe State that they would not regret voting him as the party’s presidential flag bearer.

Governor Yahaya, while welcoming Fayemi to the state, said he was eminently qualified to contest for the presidency of Nigeria.

He said Fayemi’s political antecedents placed him in a good position to lead the country in view of his knowledge, experience and dexterity as a political leader and crusader of Nigeria’s democracy.

The governor said the APC delegates in the state were solidly united.

He said Fayemi’s exposure, knowledge and expertise of the NGF chairman were ingredients that stood him out among his peers.

The Director-General of Fayemi campaign Organisation, Senator Lawal Shu’aibu, said given the political pedigree of Fayemi as a two-time governor, minister and a founding father of the APC, his experience was now more than ever before needed to change the fortunes of the country.

According to him, Nigeria needs a young and vibrant leader who understands the complexity of the Nigerian society and its developmental needs and challenges.

He appealed to the delegates to put national interest above self as they prepare to elect the party’s presidential flag bearer.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Gombe state’s APC chairman, Mr Nitte Amangal, said the state chapter of the party would give a level playing ground to all contestants.
