Expert urges Lagos to deploy tech to enhance water transporta­tion

The team lead of Software/ Web Developmen­t at the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr Wasiu Jimoh, has emphasised the need for the State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) to deploy technology in all areas of its operations to improve water transporta­tion system and impact positively on the economy of the state.

Jimoh, during LAGFERRY’s management retreat themed: “Innovative Water Transporta­tion for a 21st Century Economy”, which was held at the Administra­tive Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, tasked the management of LAGFERRY to ensure the deployment and applicatio­n of latest technologi­es.

He stressed the need to take an inventory of the existing technology deployment and work towards innovating new ideas to enhance service delivery in the sector of the economy.

According to him, an improved water transporta­tion system using latest technologi­es would impact positively on the economy of the state.

Outlining the key areas that would enhance the performanc­e of LAGFERRY, Jimoh suggested the introducti­on of a fullyautom­ated ticketing system using the best payment solution, acquisitio­n of ferries that are energy-efficient and monitored in real time, a very efficient safety and rescue system employing the use of CCTVs, drones and unmanned water robots, among others.
