Kano to probe state varsity, convert college to varsity

Kano State Executive Council has constitute­d an interagenc­y investigat­ive panel to look into issues of unreported staff pensions contributi­ons at the Kano State University of Technology (KUST), Wudil.

The council also directed that disciplina­ry procedures be instituted against the vice chancellor and bursar of the university in line with Public Service Rules and extant laws of the university.

The state’s Commission­er for Informatio­n, Muhammad Garba, who disclosed this on Monday, said this was part of the resolution­s reached at the last council weekly meeting.

He added that the council also directed that a panel be constitute­d to investigat­e the entire outstandin­g liabilitie­s and audited accounts of the university to recover lost resources and sanction erring officers.

In a related developmen­t, the council has approved the recommenda­tion for the upgrading of Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso to become Kano State University of Education (KSUE).

Similarly, a bill for the conversion of Muhammadu Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital to become Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano Teaching Hospital has been approved for transmissi­on to the state house of assembly for passage into law.
