Police arrest ‘one chance’ robber in Ibadan

The police in Oyo State have arrested a 30-year-old commercial driver, Oyelakin Oluwatobi, who specialise­s in robbing passengers.

Daily Trust learnt that one Oduola Romoke who boarded a Micra car with registrati­on number: APP 281 DF, from Iwo Road to Ojoo area was dispossess­ed of her cash to the tune of N200,000 and pushed out of the moving car.

Confirming the incident to reporters in Ibadan on Sunday, the

Commission­er of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, said that at the time of entering the car the said Oduola Romoke had no inkling that the three persons who also boarded the car with and the driver of the Micra were all members of a robbery syndicate whose modus operandi was to disguise as a commercial driver and passengers.

She said, “However, on getting to a desolate spot under the overhead bridge at Ojoo area, Ibadan, the armed robbers pointed a gun at her, dispossess­ed her of cash sum of N200,000 and later pushed her out of the moving car.

“The victim sustained severe bodily injuries but managed to raise alarm which attracted motorcycli­sts in the area, and after giving the hoodlums a hot chase one of the syndicate’s member was arrested.

“Upon interrogat­ion, the suspect confessed to the crime and series of similar criminal activities they had mastermind­ed within Ibadan metropolis. Investigat­ion is now in progress to arrest the fleeing suspects. Further developmen­ts will be communicat­ed.”
