Morocco 2022: Randy keen to avoid another defeat to South Africa
The Super Falcons Coach, Randy Waldrum has said the female senior national team are better prepared to get the maximum points when they face Bayana Bayana of South Africa in their opening match of the 12th Women Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Morocco.
Speaking to NFF TV, the American coach acknowledged the potency of their opponents while recalling the 4-2 loss to the
South African side at the maiden edition of the Aisha Buhari Cup at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos last year.
“I am thinking of qualifying for the World Cup as it has always been the goal even though we want to win the Nations Cup. I think we are prepared as regards our previous games and we have to thank the president for giving us the opportunity to play those games.
“We have a lot of attacking options to choose from and we have lots of players that can interchange. We will be more prepared against South Africa this time and we are looking forward to the match. They are a quality team and one of the best in Africa,” he said.
The Super Falcons will confront South Africa’s Bayana Bayana in their first match of the tournament on Monday, 4th July before other games against Botswana (7th July) and Burundi (10th July).
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons’ contingent has landed in Casablanca and already moved to Morocco’s administrative capital, Rabat where the team will camp for seven days before their crunch opening match of Group C against South Africa’s Bayana Bayana in the same city on Monday, 4th July.
All four semi-finalists in Morocco will qualify to represent Africa at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia & New Zealand next year, with the fifth-placed team handed an opportunity to also gain a place through a playoff tournament taking place early next year.
