Buhari names new senior officials for Ministry of Justice

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the renewal of tenure for two director generals in agencies under the ministry and a new secretary for the Administra­tion of Justice Monitoring Committee (AJMC).

A statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the ministry, over the weekend, named the directors whose tenures were renewed to include the DG of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, and the DG of the Nigeria Copyright Commission respective­ly.

Abubakar and Asein’s appointmen­t letters of 12th January 2023 were for second and final tenures under Section 3 (1) and (2) of the Legal Aid Act, CAP. L9 and Section 36 (1) and (2) of the Nigerian Copyright Commission Act, CAP C28 respective­ly.

Similarly, the president also approved the appointmen­t of Abiodun Ayodeji Aikom as the new Secretary of the ACJMC for an initial period of four years in line with Section 471 (2) of the Administra­tion of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 vide letter Ref: PRES/97/HAGF/173.

Meanwhile, in a congratula­tory message, the Solicitor General of the Federation and

Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice (SGF/PS), Mrs. B.E. Jedy-Agba stated that the renewal of appointmen­ts of the two DGs took effect from 12th January and that their emoluments and other conditions of service were provided under the Certain Political Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc) (Amendment) Act 2008.

Jedy-Agba further stated that the renewal of the appointmen­t of the officials was predicated on the laudable achievemen­ts recorded by the various agencies during their first tenures, and urged them to use their second tenures to consolidat­e and move the agencies to the next level.
