Don’t plunge APC into crisis over zoning, party chieftains caution NWC
Some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have cautioned the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee (NWC) against zoning of 10th National Assembly offices in a manner that would plunge the party into crisis.
Daily Trust reports that the APC NWC and other critical stakeholders of the party are yet to reach a resolution on the zoning of the 10th assembly offices.
The APC chieftains under the aegis of the APC Integrity Group said the party’s top echelon including the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, should avoid a situation where two presiding officers would emerge from one geo-political region in the zoning arrangement.
In a statement by their coordinator and secretary, Malam Dawu Mohammed and Comrade Chisom Nwakanma respectively, the APC chieftains said it would be in the interest of the party to zone the offices of senate president, deputy senate president, speaker, House of Representatives and deputy speaker to different geo-political zones.
The statement reads in part, “We have observed the horse trading going on about the presiding offices of the 10th assembly and we consider it pertinent to advise that two presiding officers should not go to one geopolitical zone. Doing so, we believe, would be injurious to the unity and existence of the party.
“We also consider it a concern that the NWC of our party had till date not been able to come up with the zoning formula. This situation has led to different interests and agitations that we are witnessing among our elected lawmakers. The president-elect and the party leadership should know that whatever crisis that comes from the zoning and election of the presiding officers, they are responsible for them.”
