Diri, Dickson relationship remains cordial – Bayelsa govt

- From Bassey Willie, Yenagoa

The Bayelsa State government has said that the relationship between Governor Douye Diri and his predecessor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson remains cordial, saying the two leaders will work together for the success of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the November 11 governorship election in the state.

This is against the rumour by some political gladiators that the two leaders are at loggerheads going into the campaigns for the governorship election.

Director of New Media to Governor Douye Diri, Dr. Kolawole Oredipe, told journalists in a statement on Monday in Yenagoa that the rift speculation is the handiwork of the opposition elements in the state who fell threatened by the success of the PDP during the just concluded National and State Assemblies elections in the state.

He said: “The mischiefinduced report circulating online purporting a rift in the relationship between Governor Douye Diri and his immediate past predecessor and leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson is a product of the warped imagination of a political jobber doing the bidding of an opposition political party and his desperate sponsors.

“This fresh attempt to create imaginary disaffection between two prominent Bayelsa PDP leaders will fail like other previous efforts.

“The false claim that social media aides of the two leaders were engaged in an imaginary media war is untrue, and it’s indeed devilish for anyone to be promoting hatred between Governor Diri and Senator Dickson.

“The truth remains that the two leaders enjoy a great relationship. It is, therefore, evident that the opposition in the state, which is still bruised after the shellacking they got in the recent general election, are uncomfortable with this chummy relationship. They equally know that the coherence and teamwork of the two leaders spells further political doom for them in the coming governorship election.

“Significantly, Governor Diri has repeatedly acknowledged the unflinching support of Senator Dickson for his administration and has no reason whatsoever to engage in any political war with him contrary to the mischievous claims of the sponsors of hatred and division.

“For the umpteenth time, we urge all Bayelsans and the public in general to disregard such reports, whose objective is to create an impression of disaffection where there was none. Governor Diri and Distinguished Senator Dickson’s relationship remains robust and cordial,” he said.
