Revive education in Bauchi State

Bauchi State is one of the northern states blessed with educated people who are holding high positions in Nigeria from pre-independence to date. The indigenes have played important roles in the development of our dear country.

Sadly, of recent, we are witnessing a decline in the quality of education in the state, which if not arrested will have adverse repercussions on its development.

Education remains the most paramount legacy that we can give our upcoming generations. Today, the children of the poor are not getting quality education. The education sector in the state is suffering from lack of teachers. This is largely as a result of the sacking of many teachers, especially the good ones, some time ago, in the name of verification exercise.

In addition, the government has failed to provide teaching aid, and good salaries to teachers, which forced many of the qualified ones to move to private schools.

Again, many structures in the schools are in a poor state.

Nelson Mandela once said, “Without education, your children can never really meet the challenges they face. So it is vital to educate children and explain that they should play a role in their country.

“Education is the only weapon which you can use to change the world.”

I wish to, therefore, appeal to the government to immediately embark on the renovation of the schools’ structure or building new ones.

Government should also endeavour to provide textbooks, writing materials and good furniture in our classrooms.

I also call on the authorities to look seriously into the issue of teachers’ salaries. This should be improved upon to motivate them towards giving their best and stopping them from moving to private schools.
