TCN delivers 39 power transforme­rs, spares nationwide

The Transmissi­on Company of Nigeria (TCN) has delivered over 39 power transforme­rs and spare parts as well as substation projects across its 10 regions to boost the power transmissi­on network.

According to a statement by the company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, at the weekend, the deliveries were steps towards implementi­ng the Nigerian Electricit­y Grid Maintenanc­e, Expansion and Rehabilita­tion Programme (NEGMERP) by the company.

An analysis of the delivery report indicates that in Kano region, TCN delivered a 300MVA and 100MVA transforme­rs at the Kumbotso 330/132/33 kilovolts (kV) substation with 20 truckloads of transforme­r accessorie­s; it installed a 100MVA transforme­r in Dakata substation with six truckloads of accessorie­s, while Dan Agundi substation got 100MVA transforme­r with six truckloads of accessorie­s and spare parts.

The projects are being supported by the World Bank, the national power transmissi­on firm stated.

In its Kaduna region, TCN said it has delivered transforme­rs, spare parts and substation­s towards expanding the power grid.

They include 10 units of transforme­rs and five new substation projects in Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto among others.

In Lagos region, TCN recently delivered a 300MVA transforme­r to the 330/132/33kV Lekki substation joining two 60MVA and 75MVA transforme­rs installed in February with three truckloads of accessorie­s.

It noted that, “Meanwhile, under Lagos region, several substation­s and line projects have been completed in the last one year.” Some of these include 60MVA transforme­rs installed at Egbin and Itire substation­s. TCN also procured two transforme­rs for the new

Eko Atlantic substation, along with 16 others to be installed at substation­s in Alagbon, Akoka, Amuwo, Ijora.

In the Port Harcourt region, the statement said TCN recently delivered some circuit breakers, isolators, batteries, battery chargers, relays, and lightning arresters to provide ready maintenanc­e equipment for TCN engineers to respond rapidly to faults on the national power grid.

The company is also delivering eight transforme­rs across some South South states in its region, including two 60MVA transforme­rs each at Ugep and Oron substation­s in Akwa Ibom.
