NGA To Introduce Islamic Art In North As Zaria Emirate Plans Museum

National Gallery of Art has planned to introduce Islamic Arts Exhibition in the Northern part of Nigeria.

The zonal coordinato­r, NGA Northwest zone, Mrs Mundung Bridget Akamai disclosed this yesterday in Kaduna at art exhibition in Kaduna with the theme, “Stories of Kaduna.”

According to Akamai, the Islamic art exhibition will promote Islamic calligraph­y and will also maintain the rich culture of the region.

"After this exhibition, we are packaging Islamic art exhibition, and that is what we are planning after this, it will start in Kaduna, it is going to be a tour," she said.

She also disclosed that art is another gold, petroleum and mineral resources that have not been discovered in Nigeria.

The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, said Zazzau Emirate plans to build a world-class museum where the arts and heritage of the people would be preserved for future generation.

He noted that Zazzau Emirate is working round the clock to give a true account of its people and their heritage.

Ambassador Bamali harped on the importance of tourism to the economy, adding that some countries generate a lot of money through tourism.

Earlier, the acting curator,

NGA Kaduna, Mr Sule Mohammed Afegbua, called on relevant stakeholde­rs to make contributi­ons towards making NGA a viable revenue generating agency that can contribute its own quota to the country's economic growth.

According to him, the exhibition is aimed at highlighti­ng the stages of progress in art practices within Kaduna State, with a focus on the prospects of a united and happy people.
