About 1,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos Mainland local government area of Lagos State have dumped the party, for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defectors who were led by Nurudeen Dauda cited the lack of internal democracy in the ruling party, lack of transparency in the state APC as part of the reasons for dumping the party.

The people that decamped, who are from Ward J, Iwaya Area of the LGA, were received into the party at Lagos Mainland Secretariat of the party in Alagomeji,Yaba by Dr. Adetokunboh Pearse and the PDP chairman in the local government Mr. Malomo Adelabi

Daudu, who was aide to Hon. Olanrewaju Oshun, member representing Lagos Mainland II in the state Assembly, said more APC loyalists would soon join the PDP in batches.

While thanking leaders of the opposition party in the state for accepting them into their fold, he alleged that so many ambitions and aspirations had been buried in the APC because of lack of internal democracy.

While welcoming those that decamped to the PDP in the state, Dr. Pearse, who is a member of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, and director grass root mobilization assured them of fair treatment and level playing ground in the PDP and they will be given opportunity to pursue their aspirations.

Men of the Ekiti State Police Command yesterday shut and took over the premises of state House of Assembly over a rumoured plot by some hoodlums to invade the place.

The armed policemen strategically stationed around the complex, it was gathered, were deployed to prevent possible attack and breakdown of law and order.

The sudden closure of the

Assembly complex came barely 24-hours after Rt. Hon Gboyega Aribisogan who defeated Hon. Olubunmi Adelugba was elected as the new speaker of the Assembly.

Some of the Assembly staff who were seen rushing out of their offices to their home told journalists that it was in response to an order from the state Police Headquarters that workers should vacate the Assembly to avoid possible attack.

When contacted, Aribisogan stated that there was no crisis in the Assembly saying, “The leadership of the police command in Ekiti informed us this morning that they had verifiable intelligence about some hoodlums coming to attack the assembly complex and to avoid breakdown of law and order, hence the need for their presence and they have promised us to conducts investigation on the matter and report to us before the close of work today

“I want to encourage my colleagues and staff of the assembly to be patient and bear with us, normalcy will soon return to the house”.

Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Sunday Abutu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police said they acted on security and placed restrictions to prevent breakdown of law and order.
