Police Commission Recalls 10 Wrongly Dismissed Officers
Thousands of ex-militant youths under the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) have staged a protest march in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital over the delisting of 2,952 beneficiaries and the refusal of the amnesty office to pay them the monthly stipend of N65,000.
The protesting youths under the phase two beneficiaries, said the refusal of the amnesty office to return the affected 2,952 beneficiaries to the payroll and immediate pay them their stipend will lead to the occupation of the office in Abuja and tactical disruption of presidential campaigns of political parties within the nine states of the Niger Delta region.
They staged a procession to the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Yenagoa and led by their national chairman, Aso Tambo, handed the amnesty office a week ultimatum with which to commence immediate payment of those delisted from the payroll of the programme.
According to Aso Tambo, despite the achievements recorded by the interim administrator, major general Barry Tariye Ndiomu (rtd) in the area of security commitment from the head of service and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the area of employment for beneficiaries, the refusal to pay the 2,952 beneficiaries will provoke tension and destroy the existing fragile peace in the region
Police Service Commission (PSC) has reinstated ten police officers, who were unlawfully dismissed and confirmed the dismissal of six others.
The spokesperson of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, said the commission considered the appeals and petitions of 18 dismissed police officers and approved the reinstatement of 10 of them.
Also, the commission also approved the conversion of the dismissal of two officers to retirement and rejected the appeals of six others for lack of merit.
