PMB’s Resolve To Leave Safer Nigeria For Successor Sacrosanct – NSA

- BY ADEBIYI ADEDAPO, BY SAM EGWU,

National security adviser (NSA), Maj-gen Babagana Monguno (rtd) has said the resolve of President Muhammadu Buhari to hand over a safer country to the next president in 2023 is sacrosanct.

Moguno spoke when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence for the 2023 budget defence.

He said achieving the immediate goal of defeating insecurity would therefore require the support of the parliament.

The NSA said insecurity was a global menace, adding that, “I must also say that the type of insecurity that confronts us is not peculiar just to Nigeria but it is a global thing. And in today’s context, we can only overcome this problem when we recognise the importance of intelligence as being the driver, the propellant of all activities in the whole of society. It is important that all the problems I present are taken into consideration by these very important committees. We hinge all our hopes and aspirations on whatever action you would take in solving the myriad of problems that confront us. And I want to assure you that the problems are quite enormous.

“The successes we have been recording so far in overcoming the security challenges especially in the last four to five months are basically rooted in the efforts of the Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency, Defence Intelligence Agency, having been able to provide timely intelligence to the operational element. I want to commend their efforts and I also want to by extension commend the efforts of their counterparts in the operational sphere.

“Please honourable members, I want to put aside whatever other competing considerations there are. President Muhammadu Buhari has the desire to hand over to whoever is going to inherit what he is working on right now, a safer Nigeria. It is true and I have to be very honest with you that dealing with asymmetric warfare, overcoming asymmetric problems are completely different from what we experienced in the last century.

Attah Igala and President of Kogi State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Attah Igala, Alhaji Mathew Opaluwa 11 (Gabaidu) celebrated his first year in office with the conferment of chieftaincy titles on 21 eminent Nigerians.

The event took place at the palace of Attah in Idah, headquarters of Idah local government area Kogi State.

The monarch enjoined sons and daughters of the land to shun all forms of divisive tendencies capable of causing social disaffection to the kingdom.

He urged the people to live in peace and unity during this period to observe the required development saying that development is only possible when the citizens cooperate with one another.

The Attah Igala appealed to the state government to remember his kingdom in the provision of social amenities, especially the construction of Ibaji, Idah Onitsha and Aganabode roads.

In his remark, former governor of Kogi State Capt Idris Wada, said the era of the present Attah was witnessing peace and unity, adding that the bond of unity of the people had been strengthened by his inclusive leadership.
