70% Of Nigerian Youths Not Achieving Full Potential

A new study has revealed that 70 per cent of youths in Nigeria are not achieving their full and active potential even as most are prone to mental health challenges.

The study conducted by Professor Bukoye Roseline Olufunke of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University hearing into the rape and death of 14-year-old boarding student of Premiere Academy, Lugbe, Abuja, Miss Keren-Happuch Akpagher.

Keren-Happuch died on June 22, 2021 following medical complicati­ons caused by a condom left inside her by a killer-rapist.

The condom infected her with sepsis and spiked her blood sugar, which led to her death.

The ASUU chairman, Comrade Monday Hassan Zitta, in a statement in Jos, said any attempt by government to destroy public university system, and take university education out of the reach of the poor in the country would not succeed.

Tagged, “A Counsellor­s Perspectiv­e on the Paradox of Raising Youth and Healthy Generation”, it revealed that 200 million youth globally and over 70 per cent of youths in Nigeria are not achieving their full potential.

Ruling on an ex-parte motion argued by counsel to MARF, Barrister Johnbull Adaghe, Justice Maha held that the request to commence the mandamus proceeding­s had merit and accordingl­y granted it.

“Having considered the submission of the applicant’s counsel in support of the motion and all documents placed before me, I find merit in the motion and I hereby grant leave to the disregard all the lies and levelled against ASUU.

Zitta said, “The real reason we are fighting is not the withholdin­g or prorating of salaries. These are issues that were mischievou­sly introduced by the deliberate acts of delaying negotiatio­ns and discarding agreements signed by committees set up by the same government.”

“The real issues are proper project.

“Our administra­tion is a product of popular mandate. For that reason, we have prioritise­d the interest and well-being of the largest majority of our people.

“This explains our investment­s in healthcare delivery, education, workers’ welfare, improved social amenities, and general economic developmen­t of our state. I urge you to support us in this regard.”

Prof. Olufunke said the fact that many of the youth in Nigeria cannot achieve their full potential has huge implicatio­ns for their health and that of society at large.

The communitie­s include Lugbe Phase 2 extension, and Gudaba community in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.

All Progressiv­es Congress (APC) has asked the Federal High Court sitting in Minna to compel the Independen­t National Electoral Commission INEC to recognise Haruna Arafat Magaji as the authentic APC candidate for Suleja/Gurara/Tafa federal constituen­cy for the forthcomin­g general elections.

The party told the court that Abubakar Lado’s name was sent to the INEC erroneousl­y and the former should be recognised as the authentic candidate.

The counsel to the plaintiff Aliyu Hussaini while adopting his processes as argument asked the Court to grant an order directing the INEC to recognize his client as the APC Candidate for Suleja/Gurara/Tafa Federal to receive.

Constituen­cy having won the May 30, 20222 APC rerun primary election for the seat.

He submitted that the National Working Committee of the APC which is the highest decision-making body of the party canceled the May 27, 2022, primary election which was allegedly marred by violence and irregulari­ties.

The plaintiff’s counsel submitted that the INEC in a letter confirmed to have monitored the May 30, 2022, primary election that produced Haruna Arafat Magaji.

In his argument, the counsel to the first defendant Abubakar Lado, Chris Osuagu asked the court to discounten­ance the plaintiff’s submission, but the counsel to the second defendant APC Eko Eko aligned himself with the plaintiff.
