PMB Urges Support Against Anti-terrorism, Transnational Crimes
President Muhammadu Buhari has called on civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, bilateral and multilateral development partners and other non-state actors to support their host governments in the fight against terrorism and transnational organised crimes.
The president, who spoke in Accra, Ghana, at the Accra Initiative Summit of Heads of State and Government yesterday, said the fight against terrorism and other transnational crimes requires the active participation of members of all spheres of society, including non-state actors.
Represented by the national security adviser (NSA), Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), Buhari expressed appreciation to the various partners of the Accra Initiative who keenly supported the actualisation of the various meetings taking place in Ghana.
The president, who said Nigeria was pleased to be present to observe the proceedings of the Accra Initiative, promised to take note of the report of the Non-State Actors Conference and Technical Meeting held on 17th and 18th November, 2022.
The Accra Initiative was established in 2017 by Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Togo to prevent spillover of terrorism from the Sahel and to address transnational organised crime and violent extremism in member countries’ border areas.
Oyo State police command has arrested a 27-year-old housewife, Odunayo Olumale, for allegedly stabbing her husband to death over sex advances.
The police said she stabbed her husband, Olamilekan Salahudeen, to death for making sexual advances to her, three months after the couple settled their differences and reunited following their separation.
While parading the suspect at the command headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, police spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, said preliminary investigation showed that the deceased and his wife returned to their house at Oko-Oba area of Oyo town on the day of the incident after their three-month separation.
Osifeso said, “On November 17, 2022, about 0350hrs, one Ismaila Tijani reported at Olamilekan Salahudeen that about 0223hrs of November 16, 2022, that his son named
Olamilekan Salahudeen age 35 was stabbed to death with a knife by his wife, Odunayo.
“The deceased made a move to have sexual intercourse with his wife but it was rejected, this further led to the struggle where the deceased collected and smashed his wife’s phone and in retaliation, the deceased was stabbed on the chest, leading to his death.”
Osifeso revealed that the suspect had since confessed to the crime and her unfortunate role in the incident, adding that she would be charged to court upon completion of the investigations. The suspect refused to comment when asked by newsmen to talk about the incident.
Meanwhile, other 25 suspects paraded by the command included hoodlums who specialised in burgling and looting of warehouses, suspected armed robbers, suspected kidnapping and armed robbery among others.
