NEWS PMB Mourns As Family Reveals Cause Of Gospel Singer Sammie Okposo’s Death

President Muhammadu Buhari has sympathise­d with family, friends and profession­al associates of renowned gospel singer, Sammie Okposo, whose death yesterday left many in Nigeria and across the world shocked.

President Buhari in a statement by his media aide, Femi Adesina, commiserat­ed with the Christian community, particular­ly Okposo’s colleagues in gospel music and the younger generation who had over the years identified with his elevating style of praise and worship.

The president noted the unique platform of worship created by Okposo, Okposo Praise Party, his creative contributi­ons to the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood and the inspiring role he played in grooming talents and mentoring them to stardom.

Buhari prayed for the repose of the musician’s soul, urging the family to find solace in his investment­s of love.

Meanwhile a family source has disclosed that Okposo might have died of high blood pressure.

Sammie Okposo, Delta State-born internatio­nal gospel singer, died at 51 after he allegedly slumped.

While pleading to remain anonymous, the source disclosed that Okposo was confirmed ‘dead on arrival’ by medical doctors at the hospital he was rushed to after he slumped.

“My brother died this morning at his Lekki home. Yes, he slumped but he was confirmed dead on arrival when we took him to hospital. He died as a result of high blood pressure”, the source said.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta and vice-presidenti­al candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commiserat­ed with the Okposo family and people of Isoko in the state over the passing of Okposo.
