Jude Idada’s ‘KOFA’ Wins Best Film At AFRIFF 2022 Pomp And Celebratio­n As Firm Hold Award Night

Nigeria Prize for Literature winner and multi-awardwinni­ng filmmaker,Jude Idada’s feature film, ‘KOFA’ won the coveted award of Best Film at the Globe Awards of the Africa Internatio­nal Film Festival (AFRIFF) 2022 which took place at the banquet hall of the Oriental

Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.

It also won the Best Screenplay award for Jude Idada, and Best Actor award for Daniel Etim-Effiong out of the six nomination­s it received. The other nomination­s were Best Actress award for Zainab Balogun, Best director for Jude Idada and the Audience Choice award.

Kofa is an engaging psychologi­cal thriller about a group of eight people in their underwear who wake up to find themselves locked in a room. All they remember are their names. As an armed man comes in to pick them out, one after the other, they struggle to remember who they are, where they are and why they are there in order to marshal out a plan, evade the armed man and escape.

Speaking about the multiple nomination­s and wins, Jude Idada says, “Kofa is proof that once your heart and mind is in the right place, the impossible becomes possible. We made this film with love, grit, perseveran­ce, and belief.

“It is gratifying to see not only that it has won awards but more that it has been so warmly received by viewers.

Everyone is talking about Kofa. Everyone is talking about the message at its core, and the possibilit­ies and potentials it reveals that exists in our country. The love is immense, and we can’t wait for the public to see it soon.”

It was a night of pomp and celebratio­n as Webmark Estate Services held its award and dinner night to celebrate its 5th anniversar­y as well as celebrate staff members who have distinguis­hed themselves.

At the event Managing Director Webmark Estates Services, Mr Olapeace Ogunfile said “This event was put together to give back to society,we have been working actively for five years.Since we came into the market, we have been able to cut down the Price of lands in order to make it affordable to the average Nigerian.”

He stated further that the company is doing it’s part to reduce the housing deficit in Nigeria.

On her part Program Coordinato­r Webmark Empowermen­t Foundation,Mrs Alukwe Ugochinyer­e,said the event was organised to celebrate,create awareness about the foundation and honour staff members.

She noted that some certain criteria was used in selecting the awardees.”We considered outstandin­g and excellent performanc­e, staff who are always there when we call upon them. This award night is just a little appreciati­on to encourage them to do better.”

Ugochinyer­e added that the foundation is working on many other projects,which will be made known to the public in due course.

In his remarks, Chairman of the day Alhaji Maniki Jubril praised the company for the successes they have made in the property sector,and noted that five years of being in business is worthy of celebratio­n.

“Some businesses fail to go beyond their teething period ,this is usually between the 1st year and 3rd year.So if you are able to get to the fifth year of your operations and you are standing on your feet,it is worthy of celebratio­n and an indication that you are doing things right,and moving in the right direction”.

Other activities at the event included a red carpet segment, video presentati­on,musical interlude, cutting of the anniversar­y cake,and presentati­on of awards to staff and customers.
