- BY ADEBAYO WAHEED, Ibadan

No fewer than 50 public and private secondary schools in Oyo State have been delisted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) over alleged examination malpractices.

An Ibadan-based educationist, Lanre Gbadebo who disclosed this to journalists, blamed the state government for exposing students to examination Malpractices.

He advised the government to stop playing politics with education which he described as a hallmark of development.

According to him, WAEC delisted 50 secondary schools in Oyo State for their involvement in examination malpractice during the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations.

Gbadebo said governors in the south west states have failed their people for not providing quality education, just as he condemned the plan by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to embark on another strike.

The educationist noted that the entire secondary schools in the state were guilty of examination malpractices.

He said; “When government fails to provide basic teaching equipment, it is a must for education to suffer. I wrote a paper two years ago and I complained about the effect of investing in examination malpractice in Oyo

State.

"That is what is playing out now. The current government wishes to prove that it invested in education but failed to teach students. I hope we get it right,” he said.

The delisted public schools included Olodo Community Gramm Sch, Olodo, Community High School. Kasumu, Ajia ilupeju Community High School, Alugbo, Osegere Olukeye Community High Sch, Osegere, Idi-Ito High School, Erunmu, Owo Community Grammar School, Owo, Progressive Secondary Grammar School, Community Secondary Sch, OkeOlola, Oyo, Community Grammar School, Kajorepo, Community High School, Ajase/Jabata, among others.
