Golf: First Nigerian Pro Couple Set For Lalong Cup

-

When the multi million Naira Plateau Governor’s Cup tees off next Tuesday at the Lamingo Golf Club in Jos, the nation’s only golf professional couple, David Wesley and Sharon Ineye are both set for the top prize… an outright win.

Wesley, a Nigerian golf professional of 20 years clearly indicated that now that his mind is in fine tune with that of Sharon, an amateur golfer he met some seven years back, he has made up his mind to overlook past failures and shoot for instant stardom in Jos.

“Since Sharon turned Professional after our marriage, we have always been playing for each other”, Wesley indicated. “I must confess that it has not been easy but we both hold this belief that we can do anything with the golf ball if we keep our minds absolutely poised and our eyes on shape and our bodies a trained machine. At all times, our nerves and confidence must never be fragile”.

The couple are not actually a bird of a feather. While Sharon possesses simplistic elegance, Wesleys eyes always sparkle with the spirit of Christmas, always chatty, funny and cordial. All the same, husband and wife cherish modesty. And they both share the same belief… that what you accomplish is not

Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez has threatened Argentina captain Lionel Messi for supposedly disrespecting his country.

A video showed Messi and his Argentina teammates celebrating in the changing room after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Mexico in the World Cup in Qatar.

As Messi chanted and took off his boots, the Argentina captain appeared to kick a Mexico shirt that was on the floor.

Canelo, who has won world championships in four weight classes throughout his career, felt Messi’s actions were intentional and tweeted: “Did you see Messi cleaning the floor with our jersey and flag ???? important as what you overcome.

Above all, both Wesley and Sharon are personable and precise. They are thorough and pushy and good candidates for golf.

“He better pray to God that I don’t find him!! Just like I respect Argentina, he has to respect Mexico!

“I’m not talking about the country as a whole, just about the bulls--- that Messi did.”

Many fans from around the world were quick to point out that Messi was only taking his boots off when he accidentally touched the Mexican jersey.

Mohammed Kudus scored twice as Ghana’s Black Stars beat South Korea 3-2 in a pulsating Group H encounter yesterday to keep their World Cup hopes alive and leave the Koreans side facing an early exit.

Mohammed Salisu opened the scoring against the run of play midway through the first half at Education City Stadium and Ajax midfielder Kudus doubled the Black Stars’ lead.

But the Asian side, who looked toothless in the first half, roared back after the break, pulling level through a quickfire double from forward Cho Gue-sung either side of the hour mark.

Ghana looked shell-shocked as the Korean fans celebrated wildly but they were back in front in the 68th minute when Kudus finished calmly at the back post after Inaki Williams failed to connect with a cross from the left.

The result earned Ghana three points as South Korea looked likely to crash out of the tournament at the group stage for the third straight World Cup.

Meanwhile, in one of the matches decided in Group G earlier yesterday, Cameroonian captain Vincent Aboubakar came off the bench to rescue his side with a superb goal and created another as they fought back to draw 3-3 with Serbia, a result that kept both sides’ slim chances alive at the World Cup.

Serbia’s Strahinja Pavlovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic scored in firsthalf stoppage time and Aleksandar Mitrovic netted after the break to cancel out Jean-Charles Castelletto’s opener for Cameroon at Al Janoub Stadium.

Aboubakar was summoned off the bench in the 55th minute and pulled a goal back for Cameroon with a stunning scooped chip over the keeper in the 63rd before teeing up Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to draw them level three minutes later. The draw halted a run of eight consecutive World Cup defeats for the African side.

The result left both sides on one point and needing to win their final Group G game to stand a chance of going through to the knockout stages, with Cameroon facing Brazil on Friday when Serbia take on Switzerland.
