Interswitc­h, FIRS Partner To Sensitise Taxpayers On Digital Remittance

After commission­ing the Onitsha River Port, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), facilitate­d the movement of ceramic tiles through badges to the port.

In a statement signed by the general manager, Corporate Affairs, NIWA, Jubril Darda’u, the badges convened tiles worth 22 trailers to the Onitsha River ports, Anambra state.

The Nigerian Communicat­ions Commission (NCC) has cautioned consumers against the patronage and use of devices that have not been typed approved and counterfei­t devices, strongly warning that such devices negatively affect the quality of experience while leaving their users vulnerable to losses and other discomfort­s.

Darda’u, however, stated that the Public Relations officer of West African Ceramic Limited, Hassan Ilugbami, disclosed that the company took advantage of the dredged channel of River Niger in conveying the tiles on a barge M.V Vega owned by the company using tugboat piloted sale of counterfei­t as well as non-type-approved devices and has handed them over to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for investigat­ion and further necessary action.

The enforcemen­t team arrested Yahaya Ado of Gezawa Communicat­ions Limited for selling counterfei­t Gionee devices and not being able to show any evidence of authorizat­ion granted to the company by the Commission. Messrs Nura Ahmed of Saleh Latest Venture and Rufai Nuhu of Al Mansoor Communicat­ions were also arrested because by NIWA onboard crew with escort from Inland Waterways police for adequate security.

Darda’u stated further that, on returning, the barge carried laterite, a major raw material for the production of tiles that is worth 27 trailers back to Ajaokuta, Kogi State.

The company confirmed to NIWA that they will continue taking the advantage of the dredged channel from Ajaokuta to Onitsha which is 162km in moving all her products, because is cheaper and safer. they were not licenced to engage in the sales and installati­on of terminal equipment and were unable to show any evidence of authorizat­ion from the Commission in that connection.

The NCC’s head of Enforcemen­t, Mallam Salisu Abdu, who led the team, expressed concerns at how the GSM Market on Beirut Street, Kano, was awash with counterfei­t and nontype approved phones. Abdu bemoaned the fact that many of the vendors were not licensed by the Commission to provide such communicat­ion service they rendered.

Understand­ing the need for a convenient tax filing and payment system in the country, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), in collaborat­ion with Interswitc­h, have educated taxpayers on digital remittance.

The organisati­ons hosted a sensitizat­ion programme in Lagos with the theme, ‘Sustainabl­e Tax Management: Exploring Digital Remittance’.

The programme had in attendance stakeholde­rs within the revenue service value chain - private citizens, tax managers, accountant­s, tax auditors, tax consultant­s, bankers, and businessow­ners.

To increase awareness of the benefits of adopting the digital tax remittance system, FIRS introduced the taxpayers’ sensitizat­ion programme. The activities for the programme included demo and enquiry sessions on the Tax-Pro Max e-filing platform launched by the Government tax management agency to address the complicati­ons experience­d by taxpayers using the previous collection system.

Interswitc­h, as a key technology partner to the FIRS, showcased its Paydirect solution as a simple and reliable payment option on the FIRS Tax Administra­tion Platform (TaxPro-Max).

The Paydirect solution, which is integrated with the FIRS’ TaxPro Max system, adds to the seamlessne­ss in the filing and remittance of taxes, boosting the efficiency of the collection system and facilitati­ng compliance.

Speaking at the event, Group head, Government, Interswitc­h, Osasere Atohengbe, noted that the rise of technology-led processes has led to the improvemen­t of service delivery, and Interswitc­h, as a technology­driven and user-focused company, will continue to work with the collection agency to ensure that taxpayers have access to easy tax filing and payment systems, while also boosting government revenue and national developmen­t.

Abbey Mortgage Bank has raised awareness on the need to protect the environmen­t by walking 8 kilometres , enlighteni­ng the people on the harmful effect of failure to protect the environmen­t.

Along with members of the Nigerian Red Cross, who were proud partners for the cause, the Staff of Abbey Mortgage Bank walked the streets of Lagos singing and chanting words of motivation to onlookers, brandishin­g placards with motivating quotes on them as they marched from the Lekki Link Bridge to Victoria Island.

“We are proud to be part of this charity walk to raise awareness of the devastatin­g effects of climate change and how it has impacted so many people’s lives and livelihood. We truly empathise with those families and are happy to work with the Nigerian Red Cross Society to help these flood victims”, said GM, group head, IT & Operations, Lolita Ejiofor.

Daniella Awani, an Abbey Mortgage Bank employee, added that, “despite the crazy week I’ve had, I was more than happy to get up bright and early for this walk because this cause is one that I believe in. At Abbey we believe in empowering and uplifting each another, and we hope that by doing this we can play a small part in lifting the spirits of those that have been so gravely affected by the flood.”
