From Adamu Saleh, Gombe

overnor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State has said that his re-election for a second term in office will ensure continuity and commitment to the development of the state.

Dankwambo, who said this at the presentation of his score-card in Gombe, explained that it would enable him consolidate on the developmental programmes he embarked upon in the last three and a half years.

He called on the citizens to support his aspiration which he said was borne out of desire for selfless service to the good people of the state.

“As daunting as the challenge may appear to be, the desire to answer the clarion call became overwhelming. Consequently, I Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, have accepted to present myself, on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for re-election as the governor of Gombe State, in the 2015 general elections,” he declared.

He said the presentation of his score-card would offer the government opportunity to make a sober reflection on the challenges ahead and surmount them collectively in the interest of the state.

He advised that “modern governance” was “not about violence and intimidation but all about consultation and inclusiveness”.

From Hir Joseph, Lafia

he Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nasarawa State, yesterday, displayed the name of a former Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku among the candidates sponsored by various political parties to contest in the February 28 governorship election, putting to rest the question of who is being sponsored by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

This came as APGA yesterday formally declared Maku and Abu Alhaji Ibrahim as its candidate and running mate, at a ceremony in Lafia, which was attended by defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Alhaji Mohammed Buba, the Director General of Campaign Organisation for Mathew Ombugaku, who had been insisting he was the candidate of the party and other officials of the organisation were also present at the occasion.

The national and state officials of the party held up Maku’s hands and sought the mandate of Nasarawa people.

Maku said he defected to APGA because the party represented equity, justice and fairness which he said were denied him in the state PDP in 2007 and 2014, accusing his former party in Nasarawa as “graveyard for credible leaders.”

He said the APC administration in the state had failed the people because it ruined the unity that brought the people together.

He claimed that there was a gang-up against him by the APC and some elements in the PDP because they feared true leadership, challenging them to a debate where “the people and not schemers” would decide.

“Let both the APC and the PDP challenge me to a debate; and let the people decide. Today, APGA has unveiled me against the scheming of the APC and the PDP. It is time for true change for our people who have hungered for a true leadership for years now,” Maku said.

He asked the people to vote APGA in the state, and the PDP at the presidential election, saying the provisions of three roads, and a federal university among other works of President Goodluck Jonathan should earn him a renewed mandate from Narawa State.
