Handling dry skin this harmattan

- By HAFSAH ABUBAKAR MATAZU

Harmattan season is once again upon us. The dryness and cold come with a great deal to handle where it concerns our skin. The harshness of the winds and air causes dryness, cracking and flaking of the skin.

This is why it is important to remember all the things you need to do to get through the harmattan without any harm to your skin so that it can remain lustrous, smooth and supple all through the season.

Shower with warm

water: Taking a shower with hot water strips the skin of its natural oil which results in dryness. Therefore, to maintain the moisture of your skin, taking showers with lukewarm water is the best way to go.

Go easy on

cleansers: When selecting your cleansers or soap and body washes in general, always go for moisturising products. Alcohol-free products are a nono because they’re drying. But products rich in oils or free of sulphates are more ideal.

Moisturise while your

body is still damp: Your skin needs to be moisturised constantly. This is key to smooth and supple skin. Moisturising right after a shower can trap the water and keep your skin feeling hydrated and soft. Always use a lip balm: Cracked lips are painful and easily bleed. Applying lip balm regularly aids in healing dry lips and keeps them soft and hydrated all through.

Use sealants: After moisturising, tapping that moisture is also very important. Oils like shea butter and coconut oil are perfect for the job. They will lock in the moisture and keep your skin soft and protected. With additional information from the internet
