Unknown Gunmen Kill District Head in Zamfara

Unknown gunmen Friday killed the District Head of Kucheri, Alhaji Ibrahim Madawaki in Isafe Local Government of Zamfara State.

It was gathered that the traditional ruler was shot while sitting in front of his house.

Residents told Daily Trust on Sunday that the assailants arrived at the residence of the district head on motorbikes, fired shots in to the air before killing him.

The spokesman of the state police command, SP Muhammad Shehu, confirmed the incident. He said a police team which responded to a distress call combed the surrounding areas and discovered that nothing was removed from the deceased’s home.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered investigation into the incident with a view to apprehending the perpetrators.

Shehu also called on the public to report the activities of suspected hoodlums promptly, so as to enable the police to effectively tackle the security challenges facing the state.

Meanwhile, the identities of the 41 persons whose bodies were found in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, are yet to be assertained.

Forty one unidentified corpses were found in a forest in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state last week. Daily Trust on Sunday learnt that some of the corpses had gunshot wounds while some others were found with slit throats.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kenneth Ebrimson, said the identities of the victims were still unknown.

“No, we are yet to get their identities,” he said.

Earlier, the police boss said four persons were arrested in connection with the killings and that investigation into the matter was on-going.

He said they were partnering the emirs and other traditional rulers to find out if anyone is missing in their respective domains.
