Foods that are bad for your skin

- By HAFSAH ABUBAKAR MATAZU

Your diet plays a role in almost everything that has to do with your body, and that includes your skin. You are what you eat. And if it is bad for you, then you can bet that it will show somehow on your physical appearance. So, apart from what you put on your skin on the outside, it is also important to monitor what you put on the inside. If you really want a flawless and radiate skin, here are the main foods that are a big no-no.

Sugar: Acne thrives on sugar. Not

DID YOU KNOW...

only the type you consume in your tea, but chocolates, fizzy drinks, you name it. Sugar is one of the main causes of pimples and the redness that comes with them, so if you know what is good for you, stay away from it.

Dairy: Dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt in excess can also do more harm than good to your skin. Those cystic breakouts you are so prone to having is because of all the dairy products you are consuming, so try and reduce how much of it you eat.

Junk food: Processed foods that are packed with artificial preservatives stimulate excess oil production, clogged pores, and of course, breakouts. French fries, burgers, sweets and canned foods are the main culprits of this.

Caffeine: Many of us need a daily caffeine fix of coffee or black tea to get the day going. But caffeine dehydrates you and affects your skin’s elasticity and collagen. Instead, drink as much water as you can to hydrate your skin and keep it supple. Shellfish: Seafood like white fish and salmon are great for you because of how rich they are in omega fatty acids. But unfortunately, the same can’t be said for crabs and lobsters because of the amount of iodine they have. If you must have a seafood dinner, try to stay away from these as much as possible, or consume in moderation.
