Nigeria and China are expanding their friendship in the areas of rice, seed development and tissue culture.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, and the Governor of the Provincial Peoples Government of Hunan Province of China, Mr. Xu Da Zhe, exchanged this commitment recently in Abuja.

Chief Ogbeh said China had in the last 35 years experienced huge development in the areas of agriculture, technological development, and machinery production.

Ogbe stated that Nigeria would tap on Chinese rich experience and expertise in agriculture for improved seed development, mechanisation and tissue culture.

The minister, while acknowledging China’s progress in rice research, appealed to the Asian country to assist in training young Nigerians and rural farmers to aid food production.

Earlier, Mr. Xu Da Zhe said his visit to Nigeria was to develop partnership on agriculture and deepen friendship between the two countries.

The governor also informed the minister that the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRT) initiated by the President of China, Mr. Xi Jinping, was on course as an instrument to foster, contribute to the development of Africa and further deepen bilateral relations with people and governments in Africa.
