KELOID OR HYPERTROPHIC SCAR?
I did operation three years ago (Caesarean section). Since then I noticed the site of operation is becoming bigger and bigger and very itchy. It’s inconveniencing, please what do I do? I’ll it require another surgery? Medinat, Kaduna
Most likely you are having hypertrophic scar or depending on size it may progress to keloid.
Most of the time medical treatment will survive especially with triamcinolone injection. In few cases of keloid surgical treatment may be required.
See your family physician and if necessary a dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
PELVIC INFECTION
My hubby has been complaining of smell anytime we meet. I have taken several antibiotics and done several tests. Most of the time the laboratory result will show heavy growth of staph. Please doctor what do I do? Caroline, Abuja
It’s important when dealing with sexually transmitted diseases that the couple has to be treated together, avoid meeting while on treatment, and as the person with no symptoms may even be the one transmitting the infection.
Also it’s important to use combination antibiotics and not only one of the sensitive ones only. Usually in this type of case it’s a mixed infection. In addition there may be need to add oral and local antifungal for proper management.
Ensure you complete medication even when symptoms has disappeared to avoid improperly treated infection. Kindly see a Gynaecologist for proper investigations and management.
ANY ALTERNATIVE TO THIS PAINFUL PROCEDURE?
I have been married for five years and I was asked to do investigations which include hormonal assay and HSG. I have done the hormonal assay and other tests but the doctor said he cannot treat me unless I do the HSG. I have had various terrible stories about HSG. Is there any alternative? Modupe, Lokoja
Well I have had several women always reluctant to do Hystero-salpin-gogram (HSG). Remember hundreds and thousands of women and doing it daily, if they are able to cope definitely you will too. It’s important because it determines whether tubes are patent or not. Without this it will not be proper to start stimulation except for those going for IVF.
The other alternative is SONO-HSG, but almost similar procedure. But the HSG has some advantages compared with Sono – HSG.
I will suggest you summon courage and do it, from experience with patients it’s not as terrible as it perceived at all.
PYELONEPHRITIS IN PREGNANCY
About seven months ago I was having abdominal pains and I was told I had pyelonephritis. Now I am four months pregnant and having the same problem. Please what can I do? I’ll it affect he baby? Habibat
If it’s not treated it will affect the baby . Most of the time what is required is just antibiotics.
It’s upper urinary tract infection. With proper treatment it will not affect the baby. Even for yourself the pains from pyelonephritis can be terrible and incapacitating. Kindly go for appropriate treatment.
