Kwara by election records massive turnout

There was an impressive turnout of voters in most polling units in communitie­s in Irepodun/ Isin/Oke-Ero/Ekiti federal constituen­cy where a by-election took place yesterday.

The atmosphere was peaceful as voters conducted themselves orderly while security agents were seen at poling centres and other strategic areas, monitoring the areas.

Speaking with journalist­s after casting his vote at Oro ward II, Onikoyi polling unit, Oro town, the Minister of Informatio­n and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, commended the conduct of the election, saying that he was impressed with the turnout.

The minister, who expressed confidence that the APC would win the election, said people of the area were mobilized before the poll.

Also speaking at Ajase Ipo ward 1, in front of Olupo palace, the PDP stalwart and Commission­er for Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu, said the people complained of card reader malfunctio­n in some areas.

The traditiona­l ruler of Odo-Owa in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, Oba Joshua Akinyemi Adimula, condemned the use of only card reader machine, saying that manual accreditat­ion should have been allowed.

There was however a clash among party supporters in Ekan-meje community, but security agents quickly intervened and doused tension.
