268 Nigerians return from China

- By Chris Agabi & Latifat Opoola

More Nigerians arrived home yesterday as the evacuation of stranded Nigerians abroad continued because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest returnees were 268 from China and they arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja at about 2:31pm.

Our correspondent gathered from sources at the airport that the 268 passengers and 24 crew arrived via an Air Peace aircraft.

The passengers were moved via seven Chisco buses to isolation centres in the city centre, our correspondent learnt.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama disclosed this in a tweet that all of them would go on the 14-day quarantine as stipulated by the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Ministry of Health.

The federal government had earlier repatriated about 700 Nigerians from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), United Kingdom (UK), the United States of America (USA) and Lebanon.

More evacuation is expected from India, a source at the ministry told our correspondent.
