America electricity procurement contracts activity down 24%
Lagos — There were 59 electricity procurement contracts announced in the North America region in Q1 2021, marking a drop of 24% over the last four-quarter average of 78, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.
Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q1 2021 with 66 contracts and a 32.2% share, followed by electricity procurement with 59 contracts and a 28.8% share and generation equipment with 42 contracts and a 20.5% share during the quarter.
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows: power purchase agreement: 53 contracts and an 89.8% share; and electricity supply: six contracts and a 10.2% share.
Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 33 contracts with a 54.1% share, followed by wind with 26 contracts and a 42.6% share and hydro with two contracts and a 3.3% share.
The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (United States), 2,490MW from one contract; Verizon Communications (United States), 692.5MW from four contracts; and Facebook (United States), 300MW capacity from two contracts.
