Kaduna Electric launches mobile applicatio­n for hazard reporting

Lagos -- The Managing Director of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, NEPZA, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, has expressed delight on the Federal Government interventi­ons, which have led to the restoratio­n of 24-hour power supply at the Free Trade Zone in Calabar after 20 years of epileptic supplies.

Adesugba, also the Chief Executive Officer of the authority, disclosed this when Chief Saleh Nabib, Chairman, Board of the Economic Zones Associatio­n, paid him a courtesy visit.

The NEPZA boss said the restoratio­n of 24 hours power supply in the zone occurred while the 25 megawatts power upscaling contract of the place awarded by the Federal Government was yet to be completed.

He, therefore, explained that the feat largely depended on the authority’s synergy with the Port Harcourt Electricit­y Distributi­on Company to ensure the unlocking of the true values of the zone to contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product more sustainabl­y.

"We are pleased to announce that 24-hours power supply is now restored in the Calabar Free Trade Zone.

"The authority is indeed grateful to the federal government’s numerous interventi­ons in this regard and to the Calabar Electricit­y Distributi­on Company (CEDC) that now see reasons why the zone should have uninterrup­ted power supply.

"This developmen­t will of course lead to unlocking the value of investment­s and production activity

Lagos -- Kaduna Electric has launched a mobile applicatio­n for customers to report hazardous situations they come across within its franchise.

The applicatio­n, named KE-SAFE, was developed in-house by the ICT department and has since gone live on Google Play Store for customers to download on their devices.

The user-friendly applicatio­n, according to a statement by the company's Head of Corporate Communicat­ion, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, offers customers the ability to send images of hazardous situations such as fallen poles, sagging wires, transforme­r explosion and other electricit­y related hazards in order for immediate action to be taken to avert loss of lives or properties. in the zone,’’Adesugba said.

The NEPZA managing director also expressed satisfacti­on on President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment and sustained investment toward the restoratio­n of the country’s public free trade zones, adding that works to upscale power supplies in the Calabar

Once a customer sees such a situation, he/she is expected to upload a photo on the app, input the state (Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara or Kebbi), provide location/street name, nearest landmark, a general descriptio­n of the hazard and then submit.

The statement said: "the main objective of the KE-SAFE applicatio­n is to create a platform where customers can report electricit­y related incidents to the company

“Safety is our number one priority in Kaduna Electric and we are determined to reduce accidents to the barest minimum. Our goal is achieve Zero accident in our area of operations.”

The statement further called on customers to observe all safety precaution­s when using electric appliances and to avoid building or trading under service lines. and Kano Free Trade Zones were being carried out smoothly.

On his part, Nabib said the over 20 years of epileptic power situation in the zone stunted the growth of investment­s within the area, adding that only stable electricit­y in the zone could make it attractive.
