NSCDC affirms commitment to fighting oil theft, vandalism
Port Harcourt -- The Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta, MOSIEND, has pledged to partner with the joint military taskforce Operation Delta Safe, OPDS, to tackle the menace of oil theft, illegal oil bunkering, pipeline vandalism and other crimes in the region.
National President of the group, Mr Kenedy TonjoWest, who commended the efforts of Operation Delta Safe in the region, said the partnership would stabilise and boost crude oil production as well as curb criminal activities that lead to insecurity.
Tonjo-West stated this when he led members of the group on a courtesy visit to the Commandant of OPDS in in Yenagoa, and said the group would collaborate with the joint task force, JTF, as it plans to reorient
Port Harcourt -- The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has said the fire outbreak at its exhibits yard in Rivers State, will not deter the Corps from carrying out its responsibilities.
He said the development would rather spur the agency to pursue its mandate with renewed vigour to eliminate the activities of oil thieves and vandals in the state. Speaking while inspecting the Corps burnt exhibits yard in Iriebe, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, he maintained that NSCDC was the lead agency in safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure in the country, which includes oil pipelines.
The NSCDC boss warned that the Corps will not relent in her continuous arrests of those sabotaging the resources of the nation, noting that the main stay of the nation's wealth was crude oil and any act of vandalism, oil bunkering and illegal dealings in petroleum products would adversely affect the economy.
