NUPENG treasurer emerges new NLC chairman in Rivers —Vows to protect workers' interest
Port Harcourt -- The National Treasurer of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, Comrade Alex Agwanwor, has been elected as the chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, in Rivers State.
Agwanwor emerged chairman unopposed and is expected to take over leadership from the immediate past chairperson and gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in
Rivers State, Mrs Beatrice Itubo.
The new NLC chairman in Rivers State assured to emancipate workers in the state from draconian employers as well as protect the interest of workers in the state.
He also assured that he will engage
with all employers both from the private and public sector to ensure that the welfare of workers is protected, adding that he will ensure pensioners are not owed.
"For labour in Rivers State, there is a new hope for the fight for the emancipation of workers in Rivers State from the hands of draconian and wicked employers and agencies. As a leader of the congress, I will ensure that the hope and confidence of workers in Rivers State is restored back.
"For the retirees and pensioners, we have our plans. and we will ensure that they are not owed. We will make sure that every issue regarding the welfare of workers in Rivers State is settled for the interest of the workers. We will engage the government, the private sector, and for all employers of labour, it will not be business as usual,” he said.
Earlier, the National President of NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, urged the new leadership of the Congress in the state to carry everybody along and ensure there is no room for crisis.
