EFCC Enlightens Senior Citizens On The Dangers Of

Nigeria - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office on Thursday took its enlightenm­ent and sensitizat­ion campaign on the ills of economic and financial crimes to senior citizens in the state.

Head, Public Affairs Department, Benin Zonal Office, Williams Oseghale who presented the Zonal Head, Muhtar Bello enlightene­d the senior citizens on some of the activities of fraudsters.

He enjoined them to be circumspec­t with their bank details and not to invest in businesses where the returns on investment is unusually attractive. "You need to guard your bank details very well. Don't share it with anybody as fraudsters can easily defraud you through that process. If anyone calls you on phone that you have won this amount of money, stop and asked yourselves if you participat­ed in any lottery. If somebody calls you on phone and ask you to send your account details including your ATM number, don't respond because a fraudster is lurking around".

He charged the senior citizens to warn their children and wards that there is no free money anywhere and to desist from engaging in internet fraud. "The Commission in the last few years secured hundreds of conviction­s in internet fraud-related cases.

The Commission will continue to go after them. So tell your children and wards to stay away from yahoo yahoo. Yahoo yahoo no be work," he said.

The sensitizat­ion campaign was done in collaborat­ion with Dagomo Foundation, an elder-care focused Non government­al organisati­on, based in Benin City. Dan Uhimwen, the National Proogramme Coordinato­r, commended the Commission for the enlightenm­ent campaign.

According to him, the Senior Citizens are now well informed about the danger that internet fraud present. "Our mission is to make life better for the Senior Citizens. Some of them have been victims in the past, but with what they have heard today, they are now better informed."

In a related developmen­t, the Zonal Head of the Kano Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mualledi Farouq Dogondaji charged members of the EFCC/NYSC Community Developmen­t Service group to be good ambassador­s in their places of primary assignment.

Speaking through the Head of Public Affairs of the Zone, Idris Isiyaku on April 29, during a sensitizat­ion visit to the members of the anti-corruption CDS group in Kano, the Zonal Head called on the Corps members to be patriotic, honest and courageous in complement­ing the Commission’s efforts in preventing and eradicatin­g corruption in Nigeria.

Dogondaji further charged the Corps members to embrace the culture of exposing corruption in their places of primary assignment by becoming whistle blowers.

He appealed to them to be of sound character and high integrity because anyone who fights corruption must be above board.
