Fourteen of the political parties made the demand in an open letter signed by their Chairmen, including the Anambra State Chairman and Secretary of Inter Party Advisory Committee, Messrs. Uchenna Ugwuoji and Eminent Uzochukwu, and addressed to INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu. They noted that the airport, in addition to the existence of State branch of the Central Bank in Awka, will guarantee safe conveyance, storage and timely distribution of electoral materials compared to the choice of other States. The political parties recalled that when INEC headquarters in Enugu was attacked and destroyed prior to governorship election in the State sometimes ago, sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials were safely stored at the State branch of the Central Bank, from where they were directly distributed to various Local Government Areas in the State. The letter equally acknowledged that Anambra has better security environment for electoral materials and the exercise, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission to dissociate itself from any sharp practices
