University Of Benin Uniben Shut Down Campus Indefinitely.

Management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced the closure of the school with immediate effect, following protests by some students who are against the school's decision to impose extra charges on late payment of school fees. The school management stated that students, who fail to pay their school fees within the stipulated time, will pay extra charges of N20,000, according to what the students said. However, the Vice-Chancellor on Tuesday reviewed the students’ agitation and approved the closure of the university citing security reasons. Students were also directed to leave the school premises on or before 12 noon on Wednesday, September 15. The statement made available reads: “After due consultation, and in the overall interest of the general students’ body, the Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of Senate, approved the closure of the University with immediate effect. “This is based on security reports to avoid the students’ action being hijacked by hoodlums; and thereby prevent any form of breakdown of law and order within and outside the campuses of the University. “Accordingly, all students are to vacate the hostels and the University premises not later than 12 noon on Wednesday 15th, September 2021.” This comes during a time when intending students are writing their West African Examination WAEC, hoping for admission into the institution.
