N4.2m Scam in Kaduna lands man in EFCC's net

The UK looks forward to the ReWired Summit at Dubai Expo 2020 as another key milestone on the girls’ education agenda. 6.3 The UAE and the UK have agreed an ambitious plan for cooperatio­n in regions of mutual interest, including the Horn of Africa. to promote shared security and stability priorities, and meeting the Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals.. The leaders also underlined the importance of respect for human rights in all initiative­s. 7. Culture and Education. 7.1 The leaders agreed to increase co-operation on areas such as cultural heritage protection, developmen­t of creative and cultural industries and exchange of best practice and expertise. Moreover, the leaders announced the signing of an MoU on the Cultural Sector, and work together to facilitate the implementa­tion of internatio­nal agreements such as those signed with UNESCO. 7.2 The leaders shared their ambition to strengthen education ties and committed to identify further opportunit­ies to collaborat­e in technical and vocational training. They also announced the "Education for the Future initiative", a series of thought leadership seminars that will be conducted in 2021. In addition, they welcomed the convening of the first event between the two countries on the value of IT/AI skills and competence­s in girls’ education. 7.3 The Prime Minister expressed anticipati­on of the active participat­ion of the UK in Expo 2020 in Dubai, which will positively contribute to the spirit of global dialogue, innovation, peace and prosperity. 8. Illicit Finance. 8.1 Both countries have launched a Partnershi­p to Tackle Illicit Financial Flows. They also agreed that internatio­nal partners should work together to tackle dirty money. 8.2 The first UAE-UK Partnershi­p meeting to tackle illicit financial flows will be held in London on 17 September 2021. The co-chairs will discuss the developmen­t of a joint action plan to mitigate and address shared illicit finance risks, threats, and vulnerabil­ities. The meeting will also include the signing of the Framework for the Partnershi­p to Tackle Illicit Financial Flows."

The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arraigned one Ejike Chinedu Euneoha before Justice Hannatu A.L Balogun on one count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence. Ejike's trouble started when one Utazi Romanus Ejiofor petitioned the Command, alleging that sometime in 2014, he informed the defendant of his intention to start importing goods and requested if he could link him up with a contact in China. Ejike offered to link him with an in-law residing in China and even called the said in-law who spoke with the petitioner on phone. After the conversati­on, the petitioner paid the so-called Chinabased contact N4, 278,500.00 (Four Million Two Hundred and Seventy Eight Thousand, Five Hundred Naira) through Ejike for the supply of tiles and other building materials. The petitioner further alleged that the defendant also collected 10 bundles of zinc valued at N105, 000, 00 in lieu of money and a further N350, 000 to buy a Golf Car, which he also converted to his personal use. All efforts to receive the goods or be refunded proved abortive. The one count charge reads, “That you, Ejike Chinedu Euneoha, (M) sometimes in 2014 in Kaduna within the Kaduna Judicial Division of the High Court being entrusted with property to wit; the sum of N4,278,500.00(Four Million Two Hundred and Seventy Eight Thousand, Five Hundred Naira) only by one Utazi Romanus Ejiofor for the purchase of tiles and other building materials, did dishonestl­y convert to your own use the said money in violation of legal contract which you made in regard to the said sum and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 311 of the Penal Code law of Kaduna state and Punishable Section 312 of the same Law. He pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charge when it was read to him. Prosecutio­n counsel, Precious C. Onyeneho, urged the court to fix a date for commenceme­nt of hearing. But the defence counsel, Charles Ojijieme prayed the Court to grant his client bail. Justice Balogun granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N2.5m and two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must be a Grade Level 10 officer in the civil service. The case was adjourned till 29th September, 2021.
