Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Professor Theresa Obiekezie has called on Anambra youths to stay away from hard drugs in order to fulfil their destinies in life. Professor Obiekezie made the call during a one-day sensitization and awareness creation workshop organized by the state government through the Ministry of Youths and Creative Economy at Anambra East Local Government Area, to educate youths in the area on the dangers of drug abuse.

Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that the event attracted youth leaders across the council area who were expected to stepdown the knowledge garnered at the workshop to other youths in their various communities. Addressing the youths, Professor Obiekezie pointed out that drug abuse poses enormous danger on one’s biological, psychological, social and economic life, and asked them to stay away from hard drugs to save their future from destruction. The Commissioner regretted the increase in the abuse of methamphetamine, popularly known as “Mkpulu Mmiri” in today’s society, noting that it has destroyed many youths, led to vandalization of public properties, ignited various degrees of violence, among others, and explained that the workshop was part of Governor Willie Obiano’s efforts in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.

In their various paper presentations, resource persons at the event including the state Coordinator of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr Idris Musibau represented by Dr Chinwe Thompson, and Anambra state Recruitment Officer of the Nigerian Army, Major Samson Enye attributed the increasing rate of crime and criminality, rampant insanity among the youths to daily drug abuse in the society, and warned youths not to take drugs without physician’s prescription to avoid ill health and low productivity. In a remark, the Traditional Ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka while commending the state government for the initiative aimed at saving the youths from destruction, advocated that government should engage community leaders in the fight against drug abuse for effective outcome. In their various interviews, some of the youths who spoke to the ABS including Mr Peter Nnaekwe, Miss Stellamaris Chinweze from Aguleri, and her Ezianam counterpart, Mr Samuel Udekwe appreciated Governor Obiano and the Commissioner for organizing the workshop and promised to enlighten youths in their various communities with the knowledge they have acquired.

Fofo from here knew she could not rely on her mother for protection; something that will come as a heavy blow to any fourteen year old. Kabria asked Fofo when inquiring about her rehabilitation process about staying with her mother again. Fofo’s answer
