NPC Commences Digitalization Of Registration Centres In Anambra

As part of measures to upscale vital registration in the State, the National

Population Commission has commenced the digitization of all the registration centers. The Anambra State Federal Commissioner at the commission Sir Chidi Ezeoke stated this during the official inauguration of the training of registrars and Deputy Chief Registrars at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat complex in Awka. The Vital registration includes: registration of births, deaths, marriages, migration.

These vital registrations are crucial in providing statistical data needed in planning and attainment of development goals with the potential to improve the well-being of the people. The Federal Commissioner represented by a Director in the commission, Dr Joachim Ulasi expressed worry over the low trace of vital registration in the country due to the analog form of registration which has weakened the structures of the vital registration system in the country. He explained that the ongoing re- training process is being carried out in all the States of the federation.

According to the trainer, Mr. Uchenna Osegboo, the objective of the plan is to enhance the staff of the commission with required skill into the digital version of the commission aimed at ensuring that all vital events are registered in the State for safe keeping and called for material support towards achieving the desired goal in vital registration in the State.
