UN Resident And Humanitari­an Coordinato­r Kallon Inaugurate Data Operations Centre In Awka, Launches MTHIP

The Resident and Humanitari­an Coordinato­r of the United Nations in Nigeria, Mr. Edward Kallon has commission­ed a Data Operations Centre for use by the Anambra State Ministry of Health. Mr. Kallon commission­ed the center as part of activities marking his two-day working visit to Anambra State. Later during a meeting with Governor Willie Obiano at the Governor’s Lodge Amawbia, Mr. Kallon launched the first ever Mobile Technology Health Insurance Platform, MTHIP, in Nigeria. Commission­ing the project located at the Ministry of Health, Jerome Udoji State Secretaria­t Awka, Mr. Kallon commended Governor Obiano for the reforms made in the health sector, stating that the data operations center is strategic in making informed decisions and policies so as to drive a better health care access for Ndị Anambra.

He said the center meets internatio­nal best practices and

urged other states to visit Anambra and copy the reforms the state has implemente­d in the health sector especially the model of the Data Operations Centre. Earlier, while welcoming Mr. Kallon and his delegation, the state Commission­er for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala said the visit was necessary for the United Nations Resident Coordinato­r in Nigeria to have a first view of the projects the Anambra State Government has carried out and implemente­d through its ongoing partnershi­p with the internatio­nal body and its affiliates. Dr. Okpala explained that the Data Operations Centre is a one stop center for all the informatio­n of what is happening in the state health sector. The United Nations Chief, Mr. Kallon later visited the head office of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA where he toured the facilities on ground and showed high satisfacti­on with the level of technology being maximized by the agency to give health insurance to Ndị Anambra. even the Internatio­nal Community has noticed the developmen­tal accomplish­ments of Governor Obiano, hence the award on him as a developmen­t champion. The Speaker enumerated some of Governor Obiano’s achievemen­ts to include building of three standard flyover bridges in Awka, Anambra Internatio­nal Airport, Internatio­nal Conference Centre, Internatio­nal Stadium, massive road constructi­on, regular payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, adequate security of lives and property of the citizenry, as well as classic rural developmen­t through his Community-chose-yourprojec­t Initiative, among other human and infrastruc­tural developmen­ts and accomplish­ments. He noted that the Internatio­nal developmen­t award given to Governor Obiano has really uplifted the image of the State and called on the citizenry to continue to support the lofty programmes of the present administra­tion. Right Honourable Okafor advised Ndi Anambra, especially the political class, not to see the forthcomin­g governorsh­ip election in the State as a do or die affair, but to join hands with Governor Obiano in ensuring peaceful coexistenc­e among the citizenry.
