UN Lauds Obiano On Development Initiatives
The United Nations, through her Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Edward Kallon, has extolled Governor’s leadership initiatives in Anambra, rating the State high in achievement of sustainable development goals. The UN Chief, alongside Heads of other international agencies including, WHO and UNICEF, made the remarks during a two day working visit to Anambra State. The United Nations Chief, Mr. Kallon, in company of WHO country representative, Dr. Walter Kazadi Molondo and Chief Field Officer “A” UNICEF Enugu, Mr. Ibrahim Kahlil Conteh, visited the Head office of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, where they toured facilities on ground and expressed satisfaction with the level of technology being utilized by the agency to give healthcare services to Ndị Anambra.
The team, led by the State Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor, also toured the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport at Umueri, in company of Governor Obiano and other top government functionaries, where they observed what experts adjudged the second longest runway in Nigeria, the Airport’s fire house, the control tower, the terminal building, the emergency control center, among others. Speaking after the tour which ended at Governor’s Lodge Amawbia, the UN Chief, Mr. Edward Kallon, who adjudged the projects as a solid foundation for economic growth and development, said Governor Obiano is set to transform Anambra into a mega city within a short period, and further commended him for other landmark achievements, urging him to enact laws and empower Ndi Anambra to protect and manage the legacy projects. Mr. Kallon later at a meeting with Governor Obiano at the Governor’s Lodge launched the first ever Mobile Technology Health Insurance Platform, MTHIP, in Nigeria to enable those in the remotest part of the State key into the State health insurance scheme without stress. The WHO Country representative, Dr. Molondo and Chief Field Officer “A” UNICEF Enugu, Mr. Conteh, assured of more effective collaboration with Anambra State Government, having been satisfied with impact made so far with funds provided by the international agencies. The Chief Medical Director, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Dr. Josephat Akabuike, while commending the international agencies for their support, noted that their visit was a clear indication of a working partnership which he said has benefited Ndi Anambra in many ways. The event climaxed with the decoration of Governor Obiano, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala, among others, as Champions of Sustainable Development Goals by Mr. Kallon and his team
