Claude Ake

Claude Ake was a political scientist. During his life he held various academic positions at institutions around the world, including Yale University (USA), University of Nairobi (Kenya), University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and University of Port Harcourt. He died in plane crash in Lagos. His death was believed to have been orchestrated by the then military junta of Gen. Sani Abacha of whom Ake was an uncompromising critic. Ake was a mentor to slain author, Ken Sarowiwa and a brain behind the Ogoni agitations against exploitation.
