Police arrest alleged abductors, killers of businessma­n

THE police in Ogun State have arrested six members of a kidnap gang who killed one Femi Olatunji, at Igbokoda area of Ondo State, last Friday. The victim was said to have left his Isheri home, Lagos State, on a business trip to Ondo State and never returned to his family alive, as the kidnappers haven dispossess­ed him of his valuables, took his life afterwards.

Those arrested were Fadeni Henry, Lebile Olatunji, Ehuwa Oririe, Olotu Tosin, Oluwole Odunayo and Peter Omogbemi.

The suspected criminals after dispossess­ing the victim of his valuables, which include a certain amount of money, withdrawal from his bank account through the Automated Teller Machine (ATM), killed him and dumped his body in a river behind Holy Trinity African Primary School, Igbokoda.

Parading the suspects at the headquarte­rs of the Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad (FSARS), the state Commission­er of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, said the operatives of FSARS upon receiving the informatio­n swung into action and stormed the hideout of the hoodlums at Igbokoda.

The suspected kidnappers were said to have engaged the police in a gun-battle, which lasted for almost two hours and were later apprehende­d by the team, led by SP Uba Bangadiya. They were reported to have contacted the victim’s wife for ransom before her husband could be left off the hook.

The incident was reported at a police station in Isheri and the police upon receiving the informatio­n commenced investigat­ion, which led to the arrest of the suspects.

Items recovered from them include a Nissan Pathfinder Jeep marked LAGOS EPE 603 AT belonging to the victim, one pump-action gun, one cut-to-size locally-made pistol, seven live cartridges and a Gionee handset. The body of the victim was recovered by the police for autopsy.

The police boss cautioned citizens to be security conscious in everything they do and avoid business trips with strangers in an unfamiliar terrain.

THE old boys associatio­n of Nigeria’s oldest secondary school, CMS Grammar School, will be unveiling a multi-million naira modern school hall built at the cost of N27.5 million, as part of projects to be commission­ed during its forthcomin­g 158th founders’ day celebratio­n.

President of the associatio­n, Mr. Adedapo Fashanu, who made this known at a press conference in Lagos, said the initiative was embarked upon to set the pace for old students associatio­ns of legacy institutio­ns in the country towards contributi­ng to the growth and developmen­t of the education sector.

He said the institutio­n founded by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) in 1859, which currently has on its long list of rich alumni many Nigerians occupying strategic positions in political, social and economic spheres, will also commission a staff quarter that would ensure that teachers live closer to the school for best academic, spiritual and moral knowledge delivery to the students, in the bid to restore the school to its former glory as the best institutio­n in Nigeria.

Activities lined up for the celebratio­n, which will begin on May 26 and end on June 6, 2017, include a national colloquium on 158 years of secondary education in Nigeria, with the lead paper to be delivered by the Head of Department of Arts and Social Science Education at the University of Lagos, Prof. Clara Opara, speech and prize-giving day, annual inter-house sports, and entreprene­urship summit, among others.

Principal of the institutio­n, Venerable Olaoluwa Adeyemi, said the celebratio­n themed: “Grooming for Impact” will serve as an opportunit­y for the old boys and current students to reminisce on where they came from as well as encourage young students to work hard and become eminent personalit­ies in life.

FUNERAL rites for Okwa Gabriel Enuma Ogwezi, who died recently at the age of 85, begin on Friday, May 26, 2017 with a Christian wake at his residence, Umuguru Ike Quarters, Onicha Ukwani, Ndokwa West Council of Delta State at 4:00p.m.

He will be buried on Saturday, May 27, after a funeral service at 10:00a.m.

His is survived by wife, children, grand children and great grand children.
