NWFL board refutes report on women league

-

THE Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) at the weekend dismissed a report that its board has not done anything to change the state of the female game.

Pointing at the recent changes in the game this season, especially the “well-tailored timetable that has already run its half hour mark,” the board argued, “Unbiased assessors have been unanimous in awarding the league an unprecedented highest mark in the history of the women league.”

The story entitled, ‘Nothing has changed in Nigeria’s Women Football League,’ posits that where as other league boards inaugurated at the same time with the NWFL, including the Nigerian Nationwide League One (NLO) and the Nigerian National League (NNL), have secured sponsorships for their programmes, nothing seems to be happening at the NWFL.

Dismissing the report as a plot by the writer to cause ‘disaffection and distraction among the genuine stakeholders and their respective work to lift up the league,’ the NWFL said, “comparison to serve its intent and purpose best must be made among or between equal or unequal so we ask could anyone say the aforementioned leagues – NLO, NNL and NWFL are equal and on same page as at the time the current leaderships took over the respective leagues.

“There is no gain saying the fact that there is a viable and virile brand or product called NLO and NNL that on its own merit are capable to attract a business look in from the corporate world, ditto the new boards, same cannot be said of the NWFL. “One must not fail to point out the solid work done by the immediate past boards of the NLO and NNL to position their leagues quite well to get the attention of potential sponsors NWFL was not lucky. Would it then have been a surprise that the well-oiled and cultured brides – NLO and NNL were the first to be courted by a well-nourished suitors leaving the hitherto comatose and unkempt – NWFL still searching.

“There is no hard fact about it other than the truism that the past boards of the NLO and NNL prepared their respective leagues for the good news they are reaping right now nothing of such was done for NWFL prior to the coming of the Aisha Falode-led NWFL board.”

It revealed that the NWFL is in the process of securing sponsors for its programmes, adding that it is too early for anybody to start passing judgment on the less than five-month old Falode-led NWFL board.
