GOVERNOR Yahaya Bello has proscribed the Kogi State University (KSU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for its refusal to reciprocate government’s gesture in meeting about 90 per cent of their demands.
Bello, who spoke in Government House in Lokoja after discussing the matter with the state executive council, declared all activities of ASUU in the university as illegal from July 19, 2017.
He also directed the management of the university to see academic staff of the institution that fail to resume academic activities as having resigned from the state employ and the university and treat them accordingly.
He also ordered the management to take immediate steps to find and engage suitable replacements for all crucial staff vacancies including those that have left or may wish to leave the service of the university pursuant to the proclamation.
His words: “In effect, the governing council of the university and the management of KSU and the ministry of education are hereby directed to start the process of employing all categories of academic staff.”
Bello also directed all security agencies to be on the look out and live up to their responsibilities to ensure that there is no break down of law and order as a result of the order.
He explained further that activities of ASUU-KSU relating to their seven months old strike have disrupted provision of essential services in education, thereby causing psychological trauma and losses to students and parents.
“Accordingly, the Kogi State Government hereby make the proclamation and declare all activities of ASUU in KSU from today, July 19, 2017 proscribed,” he said.
The governor pointed out that the government was forced to take the measures to save the students from prolonged strike that has lasted for seven months in spite of the several reconciliation moves he had made.
