672 persons benefit from Total E&P skills acquisition progamme
AS part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), Total E&P Nigeria Limited has trained no fewer than 672 persons in basic and specialised skills in its host communities.
Its Deputy General Manager, Community Affairs and Development, James Urho, said this at the sensitisation workshop for beneficiaries of the 12th Batch Skills Acquisition programme held at Governor’s Office Annex in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
He said the progrmmee was aimed at entrepreneurial development and economic empowerment for the trainees, noting that the beneficiaries would be trained in various fields.
A total of 224 beneficiaries would be trained in phases in 2017, which is the 12th Batch of the trainees, he said, adding: “We believe that this partnership will help in achieving qualitative entrepreneurs in Akwa Ibom State.”
Urho, who was represented by Enefiok Akpan, further explained that the company has been imparting the lives of the people in its host communities in other areas such as award of scholarships to university and post-graduate students within and outside the country.
“Other corporate social responsibility initiatives include building renovation of schools, donation of laboratory equipment, school furniture and other teaching and learning aids. A hallmark of our initiative in this area is the building of the Amphitheater hall at the University of Uyo.
“As a corporate organisation, this workshop is a clear demonstration of Corporate Capacity Building Initiative in Sustainable and Educational Development and support to communities. This objective is in line with the Global Sustainable Development Goals (GSDGS) championed by the United Nations in the area of Sustainability and Educational Development,” he said.
He, therefore, charged the beneficiaries to maintain a high level of attendance and discipline in the course of the training, adding that such informed the management of the company to organise the workshop for them.
