Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton faced off for the first time in the most anticipate­d debates in U.S. history. It was held at Hofstra University on Long Island and moderated by NBC anchor Lester Holt. Throughout the 90minute debate, Clinton and Trump sparred on everything from foreign policy to trade deals to personal stamina.

• 2014 - Mexico

A mass kidnapping of 43 male students from the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers College occured in Iguala, Mexico. On Nov. 7, 2014, the Attorney General Jesús Murillo Karam announced that plastic bags containing human remains, possibly those of the missing students, had been found by a river in Cocula, Guerrero.

• 2013 - Liberia

Charles Taylor lost his appeal against a war crimes conviction at The Hague. Judges confirmed a 50year jail term against the former Liberian president for encouragin­g rebels in Sierra Leone to mutilate, rape and murder victims in a decade-long civil war.

• 2011 - Libya

Thousands fled Gadhafi's hometown of Sirte to escape growing shortages of food amid fears their homes will be struck during fighting between revolution­ary forces and regime loyalists.

Film star, Gloria Stuart (b.1910), died. The 1930s

Hollywood leading lady became the oldest Academy Award acting nominee for her role as the spunky survivor in "Titanic." In her youth, Stuart was a blond beauty who starred in some high-profile movies.

• 2008 - USA

Barack Obama and John Mccain shared a stage in their first of three presidenti­al debates, which focused on foreign policy.

A military plane crashed after takeoff into the OkeAfa canal, Ejigbo, killing all 163 people aboard.

President F.W. de Klerk and African National Congress leader (ANC) Nelson Mandela held their first meeting where they agreed on the need for an interim government.
