Chevron assures stakeholde­rs of needs-driven interventi­on programmes

CHEVRON Nigeria Limited (CNL) has said that its Corporate Social Responsibi­lities (CSR) and social interventi­on programmes in the country are data-based and needs-driven.

Its General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Esimaje Brikinn, said this while addressing the 2017 set of participan­ts at the Advanced Writing and Reporting Skills (AWARES) of the School of Media and Communicat­ions (SMC), Pan Atlantic University (PAU) in Lagos.

He said the company has spent about $100 million on Deep Water Social interventi­on projects and about N7.5 billion on educationa­l sponsorshi­ps. For instance, Brikinn said about $5.3m was expended between 2012 and 2016 by CNL in Bayelsa State to tackle HIV/AIDS.

He pointed out that the company through its health interventi­on programme in the state was able to reduce the prevalence rate of the dreaded disease in Bayelsa State from 9 per cent to 3.1 per cent.

Brikinn added that another $1.5 million was disburse in 2016 for the second phase of the CSR project in Bayelsa State where about 185,000 people were reached.

Besides, he stated that company has also built and equipped chest clinics, science laboratori­es and related interventi­ons in many states of the federation as part of its contributi­on to the wellbeing of the people.

On the AWARES training programme, Brikinn said, “CNL strongly believes in the developmen­t of human capital, in line with its core values of building productive and beneficial relationsh­ips. That is why we continue to sponsor various programmes with the goal of exposing our media stakeholde­rs to fundamenta­l communicat­ion techniques that help enhance writing, speaking and presentati­on skills.

“One of our core values is partnershi­p. It is our usual practice to partner with relevant stakeholde­rs everywhere we operate, in our efforts to achieve common business and developmen­t goals, especially with the media,” he added.
